Beginner - Advanced Level
Creative Expression in Tapestry Weaving is all about the art of tapestry. It is an art form that includes color, shape and texture and and is a form of art that has wonderful creative possibilities. This is a class you can choose to take as a 1 time session or multiple times as it will be customized to each learner. Request a private meeting via a message and I'll set up the time that works best for both of us. I will introduce the art of tapestry to a beginner or continue the learning for an advanced weaver. Since these are 1-1 classes the content will be individualized. I do have limited availibility on the calendar; however, please message me if you have a request for a different time and day and I'll be happy to see if it's possible for me to fit that in my schedule so we can set that up for you. My teaching style is best described as structured freedom where I take the approach of encouraging learners to imagine, explore and discover as they learn. I will teach how to bring ideas to life on the loom as we build a tapestry toolkit of techniques and experience the creative process, which is different for each learner. The class is designed to begin where the learner is in their weaving skills and ideas and build from there. For advanced learners I'll be introducing them to new techniques as I build on the ones they may already know. Content is designed per learner but the following are possible topics/techniques that may be included. For a beginner the Session 1 outline is most suitable followed by the next sessions in the order they are listed. For an advanced student they can choose any of the sessions to begin and we will design their content per their tapestry skills and interests for as many sessions as they choose. Session 1~ Imagine and Begin Your Tapestry Introduction to tapestry Warping the loom - 2 methods demonstrated Choosing weft yarn Technique - Plain Weave Session 2 ~ Explore Inspiration and Texture Explore inspiration sources Technique - Soumak Session 3 ~ Discover Design Possibilities Discover different design options Technique - Rya knots Session 4 ~ Reflect and Finishing ideas Reflect on your finished work Learn different ideas for display of a tapestry Session 5 - Imagine Triangles Twining Triangle shapes in various positions Session 6~ Explore Half-Rounds Half rounds woven eccentrically Play with position of half rounds Session 7 ~Discover Design Possibilities Weave half rounds and triangles, changing size and position of the shapes.
