This private ongoing private course will focus on Middle School Physical Science concepts with the emphasis on real-life usage of these concepts based on the teacher’s experience as an Aviation Meteorologist and as a STEM certified Arizona teacher. This class is designed for a private setting of one or two students. The core material is based on the textbook, Physical Science 12th Edition by Bill W. Tillery (no purchase necessary) and supplemented by PowerPoint slides, and real-life examples. The focus will be on physical science concepts and not high-level math. Only basic math is needed in this course. The students will experience middle school physical science topics with very personal interaction and engagement. All the concepts will be discussed based on application with emphasis on meteorology, aviation, and some military applications. This will enhance student learning to apply the concepts, retain the learning, and continue to build on the concepts going into High school. The learning will drive student inquiry throughout this course and the students will have multiple opportunities to interact with the teacher throughout this course. Engagement is expected in a private setting and highly encouraged to enhance student learning and makes the material come alive. Additionally, a course goal is to help introduce students to see real life usage of these physical concepts, encourage exploring science related career fields especially in meteorology, aviation, or other fields of scientific study. The first 5 minutes- Welcoming of individual students. Students will be expected to ask questions in a private class setting to clarify understanding needed from the previous class. This will help to solidify and continue to build on the learning of the concepts discussed in class. However, each class can be individual and distinct and not directly built on from the previous class. The next 40 minutes the teacher will share concepts from the textbook, use PowerPoint Slides presentations, and explore the concepts with real world examples. Students are encouraged to discuss and ask questions to make the class more interactive. The last 5 minutes students will share their learning from the class, review the topic, discuss, and ask relevant and essential questions as well. Additionally, a short in class quiz may be used to help review the material learned for that day. The topics covered during the course: Physics 23 Mar 2023, Week 1: Motion, Speed, and Acceleration 30 Mar 2023, Week 2: Friction, Falling Objects, Inertia, Free Fall 6 Apr 2023, Week 3: Newton’s 3 Laws of Motion 13 Apr 2023, Week 4: Circular Motions, Centripetal, Centrifugal, Gravity, Pressure Gradient Force, Coriolis, Low and High-Pressure centers in Weather 20 Apr 2023, Week 5: Temperature, Molecular Theory, Phases of Matter, Measuring Temperature 27 Apr 2023, Week 6: Heat Transfer, Conduction, Convection, and Radiation, Albedo, Reflection 4 May 2023, Week 7: Water Cycle, Evaporation, Condensation, Transpiration, Precipitation, Infiltration, Run Off, & Storage 11 May 2023, Week 8: Types of Clouds in the Atmosphere 18 May 2023, Week 9: Thunderstorms and Lightning and Impacts on Aviation and Safety 25 May 2023, Week 10: Frontal Systems, Cold, Warm, Stationary, Occluded, and Airmasses 1 Jun 2023, Week 11: Waves in Motion, Amplitude, Wavelength, Frequencies 8 Jun 2023, Week 12: Light and Concepts, Blackbody, Visible, Infrared, Reflection, Refraction 15 Jun 2023, Week 13: Light Continued Particle theory and polarization of light 25 Jun 2023, Week 14: Electricity concepts 29 Jun 2023, Week 15: Magnetism concepts, poles, fields
