During this class, students will focus on strengthening their phonics skills. Some skills that will be taught are blending, understanding word families, reading simple and complex CVC and CVCe words, reading sight words in context, and simple sentence writing. At the start of each class, there will be a word-building exercise where students will create new words by changing either the beginning, middle, or ending sounds. For this exercise, students will use magnetic letters or a whiteboard. Throughout the week, students will learn 4-5 new sight words, which they will incorporate into sentence reading and building activities. A lesson plan along with a list of required materials and printables will be available every week. To ensure the best learning experience, students are expected to have all the necessary materials. Learners should be able to identify all 52 letters (uppercase and lowercase) in the alphabet as well as provide the correct sound for each letter.
