These 30-minute phonics lessons are designed to provide a daily "splash" of some of the most critical phonics skills, taught in 1st and 2nd grade, that students may not have mastered during the previous school year due to a variety of factors that could have disrupted their learning. Your learner will engage in fun, multisensory (kinesthetic, visual, auditory, and tactile strategies), and energetic lessons, which aim to increase his/her accuracy and fluency, taught by an experienced, patient, engaging, positive, and creative educator. I am energized by teaching and it truly is my passion. I'd love to work with your learner. I can differentiate instruction for each camp based on the individual level of each student, but this particular academic camp would be best suited for learners that are reading at a 1st or 2nd grade level, especially students who have not completely mastered all phonics skills and still need explicit, systematic instruction in the more difficult decoding skills such as 3-letter blends, vowel-consonant-e words, vowel teams, diphthongs, r-controlled vowels, etc. That doesn't necessarily mean they are in one of these grade levels, but instead we will consider what reading level they are/were receiving instruction and if they have not mastered the phonics and decoding skills listed below. I am a current 2nd grade teacher and have been teaching elementary for 13 years. I've tutored online and in-person most summers since college. I have experience with neurodivergent learners (including my oldest son). I have thirteen years of experience with differentiating reading lessons for students who are above grade level and ready for a challenge in the same classroom with students with attention/focus struggles where gaps in learning have occurred, students with dyslexia, and students experiencing other situations where reading seems to be tricky to understand. My favorite part of teaching is creating and delivering engaging, meaningful, and research-backed lessons that make learning fun and reach all learning styles. I use the structure of the Orton Gillingham sequence and strategies backed by Science of Reading research for delivering phonics-based instruction and to determine how, and in which order, to explicitly teach sight words and sound spelling/ phonics rules/decoding. My goal, after each session, is that learners increase their confidence in reading and improve their ability to manipulate sounds within words (phonemic awareness), word reading accuracy, and fluency, all of which will increase their overall academic success. I am experienced in using multi-sensory strategies, which involve the use of visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile strategies to enhance memory and learning of written language. We will use orthographic mapping, kinesthetic segmentation of sounds and syllables, syllable mapping, decodable text based on our skill, and explicit instruction of phonics patterns and syllable division rules to read multisyllabic words. Each day, learners will participate in: 1. A phonemic awareness warm-up (rhyming, blending, sound isolation, sound substitution, breaking words into their individual sounds and syllables), 2. Explicit phonics instruction, practice, and word sorts based on patterns. 3. High frequency word (also called tricky/ heart words) instruction that follows the phonics skill if possible, and if not, we will work on a handful of irregularly spelled high frequency words. 4. Application of phonics patterns through word chain activities, blending, and decodable readers that follow the phonics pattern. 5. Fluency practice in recognizing and reading pattern words. I promise to make this a meaningful and engaging class with plenty of modeled excitement for learning! See below for the phonics skills that we will be focusing on each day of the camp. Strong relationships, both with the learner and their family, are very important to me and I strive to know each learner as an individual, recognizing and praising their strengths and efforts, while working to improve their areas that need more focus. I'd love to have your learner join me in our phonics summer camp. Classes meet Monday-Friday at the same time every day for one week. This camp will be repeated various weeks throughout the summer. Day 1- Monday- 3-letter blends and trigraphs. Day 2- Tuesday- VCE (also known as Magic E or Silent E) in 1 & 2-syllable words Day 3- Wednesday- Soft C & Soft G in single syllable and multisyllabic words Day 4- Thursday- R-controlled Vowels (er, ir, ur, or, ar) Day 5- Friday- Common Long Vowel Teams
學習目標
