Are you excited for the Olympics? Then come and join us as we explore the history of the international games. We will go all the way back to ancient Olympic Games in Greece over 3,000 years ago and look at what events were held and who was allowed to participate. We will then flash forward to Athens, Greece in 1896 with the first "modern" games. Who participated? What events were held? What was the response around the globe? What does the symbol represent? Who decides when and where each game will be held? We will then move through the twentieth century and look at how the events have evolved and changed, what years were there no games, and different controversies (boycotts) and surprises were there (Jamaican bobsled team).

Learn about historical events through the context of geography and how it affected different events.Understand differences between present and past perspectives, and apply it to present day issues

There will some discussion of sexism (women were barred from the original games), racism, and discrimination. All discussions will be at an age appropriate level.
There may be some Youtube videos that are seen during this class. I will share my screen and learners will not need to access them on their own.
