In this one time, chef led course, students will get to create their very own versions of Arepa de Queso (Cheese Arepas) just like from the Disney movie "Encanto." Hopefully these will have healing powers just like in the movie! During class, I will start with a short introduction of all learners, review materials and ingredients needed, and then dive into the recipe. I will be actively demonstrating and instructing during class. Learners should feel free to ask questions as needed to ensure success. During class I hope to finish at least one batch of the homemade Arepas so we can sample together during class time! Please review the supplies and tools needed for maximum success. A basic knowledge of cooking and baking terms is helpful but not required. We will go through all the steps together! This recipe is perfect for a beginner! Allergen warning* The recipe used in this class contains corn and dairy Parental Guidance** During class we will be forming arepas with our hands, and cooking them on the stovetop. Some learners may need additional parental assistance depending on skillset and knowledge.

Cheese Arepas Ingredients: 1 tsp Kosher salt 1 cup pre-cooked white or yellow corn meal, such as P.A.N. brand--this can be found in the hispanic section of most big box stores Shredded mozzarella cheese Vegetable oil About 1.25 cups warm water Supplies: **Stovetop access required** 1 medium sized mixing bowl 1 mixing spoon Measuring spoons and cups Clean surface for working with arepas 1 heavy bottomed skillet, cast iron would work GREAT here 1 spatula for flipping arepas Large plate or sheet pan for holding finished arepas Paper towels for catching grease drips We will be using our hands to shape and form the arepas during class, please come with freshly washed hands and long hair tied back Optional: Apron, chef's hat, paper towels or towel for wiping hands
