課堂經歷

We will spend 4 weeks working together to build habits that lead to a clean, decluttered and organized bedroom space. Each week, two original video lessons and a printable Habit Builder page will be posted directly into the classroom.

Class camaraderie will be built through student-to-student interaction in the classroom. In this class, I function as a teacher and coach - and I will coach learners through a weekly habit challenge using the Habit Builder page. Learners will upload their completed page for feedback and to work together to meet the weekly challenge. There will also be many opportunities for teacher-to-student interaction in the classroom posts - and will also be encouraged to reach out directly if they have any questions or need more encouragement or support.

This class will be most effective for those who struggle to keep their rooms clean and will have a heavy focus on progress not perfection. Learners will be encouraged to celebrate their victories along the way - not just when their room is “finished.”

Course Breakdown:

Week One: Videos will introduce our first habits and begin the decluttering process. We'll have a Before and After Show and Tell Challenge - posting photos of our space before and after a 5 minute tidy to see how much we can get done in just 5 minute increments.

Week Two: Video lessons will build on week one habits, and we will start decluttering. There will be a Decluttering Photo Scavenger Hunt - where students post photos of items they have decluttered.

Week Three: We will continue reinforcing the habits from weeks one and two, and also consider our room as a container and talk about what our room needs to hold, and what our limits are. There will be an Organizing Version of “I have… who has” posted in the classroom.

Week Four: Video lessons will question the difference between "Tidy" and "Clean" - Now that our spaces are tidy, tasks this week will be focussed on deeper cleaning and learners will complete a Clean and Tidy Bingo Card.

學習目標

Students will use simple steps and strategies to get a messy space tidied up and clean.

其他詳情

學習需求
This class will be particularly helpful for those with VERY messy spaces. The timer strategy is also very beneficial for students who struggle with executive function and motivation (ADHD etc).
供應清單
Learners will need a garbage bag, recycling bins (as used in your area), and a donatable donations box. During the final week especially, learners will need access to a broom or vacuum, a damp cloth, and whatever tools your family uses for dusting. Learners will need access to a timer to work on the habits between video sessions (while any timer on a phone or device is sufficient, however an egg timer or simple kitchen timer may help students to NOT get distracted by other apps and things on a device).
外部資源
學習者無需使用標準 Outschool 工具以外的任何應用程式或網站。
來源
We will use many strategies from author Dana K. White's home management books. Students will not need the books, but I will give clear references to her work when we use terms she coined such as the "Visibility Rule" "Clutter Threshold" and "Container Concept."

I am a teacher, a tutor and a mom from British Columbia, Canada. I currently am teaching full time in the public school system and enjoy tutoring and coaching part-time on Outschool as well.

As a child academics came very easily for me, but personal organization did not. I was the kind of kid who had a messy room and a messy desk, and later a messy locker, apartment and car! Kids who struggle with math or writing, often get support. Kids who struggle with life skills instead tend to get judged and treated like they are just lazy or don't care. I cared and my inability to figure out how to keep things tidy was frustrating, stressful and embarrassing!

I have studied and learned ways to work with my brain to get and keep things clean and organized. I love working with kids and teens who need a little extra encouragement, support and training in this area - and offer judgement-free, kindness based coaching for kids.

I really hope to get to meet and work with your children.
