Welcome to this five-week course on the story of Anne Frank and those who were a part of her story in the Secret Annex. 

Please note, that students do not need any prior knowledge about Anne Frank and are not required to have read her diary to attend this class.  Students who have read her diary are also welcome to join as this will be a more in-depth look at each of the individuals in her story. 

Through our time together we are going to closely examine the individual 'characters' in Anne Frank's diary while examining the story of the Secret Annex.  This will include looking at what their lives were like before the Holocaust happened, and what happened to those who survived this time period including Otto, and their helpers. We will discuss the daily life of those living in the cramped conditions above Otto, Anne's father's business and how they managed to hide from the authorities for over two years. We will also spend one class focusing on those who helped those in hiding and the risk they took. For an individual breakdown of each week, please see the 'Syllabus' tab. 

The goal of this course is to understand how the Holocaust impacted this group of people and completely changed their lives forever. Through our five weeks together, students will learn through a guided slideshow presentation which will include pictures, videos, and discussion questions to give students the opportunity to critically think about these events. 

* For students who have taken my one-time class on Anne Frank, this course is much more in-depth and provides more focus on the other individuals in Anne's story. There may be some overlap in Class 1 to give everyone background information, but the following weeks will provide fresh information.
