If your learner is ready to learn to read with the one-on-one support of a certified teacher, I would be happy to help! I have taught a wide variety of learners how to read during my ten years as a public school teacher. Our sessions will begin with a diagnostic to assess your learner's current reading abilities. Then, I will plan fun interactive activities and lessons to help your learner progress to the next level and become a confident reader!

In the first session, learners will complete an initial assessment, which will enable me to plan effectively to target their individual needs. 

Each following session will generally follow the following format:

- Fluency Read: a brief re-reading of a short text from a previous session.
- Word Work: instruction and practice with specific phonics patterns.
- Decodable Reading: reading short stories that feature words with the current phonics pattern of focus and sight words, which learners can read mostly independently with support.
- Comprehension: brief discussion to gauge understanding of the decodable text.
- Sight Words: fun practice of common sight words (i.e., "the", "was", "said", etc.)

These learn to read sessions will focus on your learner's current specific needs with phonics skills such as:
- Phonemic Awareness
- Decoding (essentially reading written words by blending the letter sounds together)
- Encoding (essentially writing words by identifying the letters needed to make each sound)
- Reading Sight Words
