History Herald: Middle School Mind and Ancient History: Civilizations & Cultures

In this multi-day social studies/ history  course, students will travel back to explore the diverse and rich histories of Ancient Civilizations. Students will study geography, culture, and history to understand these ancient peoples and their influence on the world. Each week, students will work to understand the environment, economy, society, religion, advancements, arts, and political systems that were fundamental pieces to the culture of each group.

Each class will be rich with discussion, interaction, and presentation as we bring to life those ancient people of the past. This is a beginner class, so no prior knowledge is needed. Students will be given weekly handouts to help facilitate notes and activities to solidify their understanding of the content. 

Week One- Elements of Culture, Sources, and Artifacts/ Paleolithic and Neolithic Cultures
Week Two-  Ancient Mesopotamia 
Week Three-  Ancient Egypt
Week Four-  Ancient India
Week Five- Ancient China
Week Six- Ancient Japan
Week Seven- Ancient Greece
Week Eight- Ancient Rome
Week Nine- The Ancient Islamic World
Week Ten - Ancient America

Every class will help students identify the major tenants of culture, their ability to settle and grow, and issues that caused these civilizations to fall. We will explore how civilizations had changed over time and the evidence we see in our current lives. Students will leave class with a solid understanding of each major Ancient Civilization.
