米国の学年 7 - 10
Beginner - Intermediate レベル向け
Students will have an opportunity to deep-dive into a variety of topics relating to anthropology and archaeology all over the world, as well as learn more about new subjects based on the interests of others in the group. They will have an opportunity to do additional research based on questions posted with the weekly study material, and practice their speech and debating skills. All discussion closely moderated by the teacher so that every student feels comfortable and safe in being able to express their opinions, or disagree with the opinions of others.
I have been a lover of archaeology, anthropology, and adventure since I was very young! My desire to learn about the world and people from different backgrounds led me to a BA in Cultural Anthropology, followed by an MA in Bioarchaeology. My studies and career have given me opportunities to do fieldwork in India, Peru, Egypt, South Africa, and throughout Central America! My undergraduate and graduate theses are both published in accredited scientific journals, and I have also written seven published history books or biographies!

The assignment (article, video, etc.) should be completed BEFORE the live meeting each week. It is vital that students complete the assigned reading, viewing, or listening to get the most out of the class and to be considerate of the teacher's and other learners' time.

I do my best to ensure that all content is suitable for the age range of the class. It is important for students to approach all subjects with an open-mind. We will discuss practices and beliefs of various cultures -- some from history, and some that are still around today. Approaching these topics with curiosity, a desire to understand, and without judgement is essential.

Discussion that arises from certain sessions may address topics that are at the forefront of controversial public/media debate: climate change, science vs. religion, the use of genetically modified organisms, etc. A fact-based approach will be taken when these things come up, though the nature and tone of the discussion will always be respectful.

Open group discussion will be a major part of the course, whether through use of the microphone or the chat box tool! It is essential that students complete the required reading/watching/listening of the assigned topic BEFORE class each week, and come to class ready with some comments and questions to help direct the live meeting.

The minimum age listed for this course will be strictly enforced - if you have a student below this age, please message the teacher before enrolling.
