In this one time, one hour class, students will participate in a scavenger hunt which will lead them to explore the many rooms/areas of Ellis Island. Students will learn what it was like to be an immigrant coming to America in the late 1800's and 1900's . They will read first account stories and quotes that will immerse them in the Ellis Island experience. Throughout the class we will discuss their findings and why America is called the "land of opportunity." Students will be evaluated...
I am offering this class because I have been to Ellis Island and on a personal note my great-great-grandparents came through Ellis Island from Poland and the Ukraine. I find this topic very interesting and I am bursting with enthusiasm to teach this class. I also have pictures from my trip that I would love to share with students.
Students will be provided with a word document that contains the scavenger hunt list.
