To understand History we need to understand the overall story of it and how things fit together. In this class learners will learn about the overall story of American History by looking at the smaller stories that are a part of it. From the early Indigenous Peoples to the Constitution. These will be given from a variety of perspectives and viewpoints. Each week there will be a lecture about the events, and if time allows there will be some discussion about the events and their importance. Each week there will be an assigned essay question related to what was discussed in class, learners should submit a one paragraph answer to the teacher before the following week's class.

Week's topics:
Week 1: Beginnings
First Indigenous Peoples, Ancestral Pueblo, Adena, Mississippians, Algonquin Nation, Haudenosaunee Confederacy,  arrival of Europeans (Taught from a general factual perspective, and inclusive of all points of view)

Week 2: 13 British Colonies
The founding of each of the first English Colonies

Week 3: Life in the colonies
Early governments, tolerance and intolerance, differences

Week 4: Moving towards Independence
Lead up to and French and Indian War (Seven Years War)

Week 5: Lead up to The American Revolution
Great Britain clamps down, Colonists protest 

Week 6: The American Revolution
Rebellion, War begins, Declaration of Independence, Revolution itself

Week 7: Gaining Independence
Problems during war, End of Revolution and its effects, 

Week 8: Starting new nation
Critical Period, Articles of Confederation

Week 9: Constitutional Convention
Importance, what occurred during Constitutional Convention

Week 10: The Constitution Part 1
Getting states to ratify the Constitution, division of powers between states and national governments

Week 11: The Constitution Part 2
Division of Powers, 3 branches of government

Week 12: The Constitution Part 3
Congress overview, passing laws, Washington becomes President
