The discipline of Cancer Biology studies the complex interplay of genes, proteins, and biological processes that results in the development and growth of cancers. This course introduces the biology of cancer (oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes) as well as the biological characteristics of cancer. It designed for learners to develop an understanding of cancer and how it is prevented, diagnosed and treated. The course also describes the risk factors for major cancers worldwide. We explain how cancer is diagnosed and how the major cancers are treated. As we live longer, the incidence of cancer is also rising worldwide. I hope that this course gives you a basic understanding of cancer biology and different methods of treatment in general (e.g. surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy). I highly recommend learners that take this course also take 'DNA: Decoding the Universal Language of Life', as a core aspect of cancer study is based on DNA and gene regulation.
