Aligned with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)
Over the course of these three lessons, learners will gain knowledge about exploration rovers and missions to Mars. They will apply their creativity and scientific and math knowledge to explore the Red Planet. They will learn while preparing and conducting these lessons. After this lesson students will be able to:
1. Describe the new technologies scientists use to explore Mars, other planets, and outer space
2. Discuss the rationale of life on Mars and the key facts about the planet Mars
3. Understand the scientific objectives of the Mars exploration rover missions
2. Identify the location of Mars within our solar system and compare the key characteristics of Mars and Earth
4. Use logical reasoning to solve problems.
During my PDF fellowship and beyond I have been in touch with JPL, NASA, and some of its scientific staff. I have been a member of NSPIRES (NASA Solicitation & Proposal Integrated Review and Evaluation System), in which I reviewed the scientific project proposals for approval. I was also a member of the Astrobiology Road Mapping Community, JPL NASA, USA. I was in direct communication with some of the Mars mission exploration staff and involved with an optic-related projects as well.

I consider the following aspects to evaluate the students in this program. 1) Their attendance and if they attended every class. 2) Did they complete their assignments on time. 3) Did they participate in the discussion. I will communicate with their parent about how the student did in the class and their assignments.

I will provide quizzes and short answer questions using applications such as Google forms, so students answer them instantly and we review the answers to the questions in the class.
This class presumes no previous knowledge of Mars, space missions, and rovers. Learners will not need to use any applications, models, or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools. I will provide the videos and PPT/PFD’s of the material in the class.
