スキル ビルダー: 読書と数学の個別指導

This course is a 1 on 1 tutoring opportunity for students needing extra help in Reading and/or Math in elementary.  Lessons will be engaging, interactive and skill based so students can transfer strategies to any concept and still achieve success.  Some sessions will include games and even virtual escape rooms!
Students will begin with a diagnostic assessment based on Common Core Standards to determine areas of strength and challenges. 

Reading:
Phonics-Students will learn the various ways letters work together; Students will learn how to decode multisyllabic words with various word attack strategies to help read more fluently.
Fluency-Students will practice phrasing and chunking to help read more fluently to promote comprehension.
Vocabulary-Students will learn how to use context clues, and affixes to understand word meaning.
Comprehension-Students will learn transferable strategies when reading text of all genres; Students will analyze text structure, characters, mood and theme to better comprehend the text; Students will analyze text features that help support nonfiction text

Math:
Numbers & Operations: Understanding place value to complete any operation of math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).  Comparing fractions, adding and subtracting fractions

Operations & Algebraic thinking: Working with missing numbers, and problem solving strategies

Students tutoring sessions will focus on their greatest area of need and build on each skill.
