After teaching in classrooms for the last sixteen years, I have found many useful strategies to help students to monitor their understanding of the text they read.  The organizers that I use for this class are made by me to assure they are kid-friendly but provide rigorous opportunities to keep track of the text that the students are reading. There are four reading comprehension skills in this class.  Each skill will be taught focusing on one top priority literacy skill for reading comprehension with nonfiction and fiction texts.  The graphic organizers address skills such as main idea, story plot, cause and effect, and inferences. Each lesson has a practice page, as well as an answer sheet for learners to check for their understanding.

LESSON FORMAT (each lesson contains):

1. VIDEO RECORDED LESSON:
-Comprehension Skill Objective: teacher explains the skill of the lesson
-Read aloud: I will read the text of the lesson and model teaching points.
-Graphic Organizer: teacher models and students help to complete the skill focus of the class and students can follow along on their own
2. WORK PAGE:
 Students are encouraged to complete the work page after each lesson to support the skill from the lesson video.
**an answer sheet is provided as well that contain possible answers since some skills may have variable answers.
