What's included

Group experience

With private lessons and online classes, young musicians lose the opportunity to share their music. In addition, the classical music world often discourages sharing your music unless you are a virtuoso. Music is about community and all should have the opportunity to share and hear each other, regardless of ability level! In this group, musicians will have the opportunity to share videos of themselves performing on their instrument(s) in a low-stress environment. We will listen to each other make music, share what we liked and learn to give constructive criticism in a way that is both helpful and kind, building a community of young musicians who support and learn from each other. Musicians are encouraged to share as often as they feel comfortable, be that a few times per week or once a month.

As the moderator, all students will have access to myself and my experience. I will be looking at every post, and will give feedback (unless the musician requests no constructive criticism) to each performance video. I have a degree in music education and experience tutoring or teaching players of many instruments, as well as plenty of performance experience on many different instruments. Musicians can also expect to see a post from me a couple of times per week, beginning with our ‘composer of the week’ and continuing with conversation starters to help us feel comfortable sharing our musicality with each other.

In addition to sharing our own music, we will also share what we are enjoying in the instrumental music world. We will share composers or pieces that we like, learn a little about our spotlight composer of the week each week, talk about the way instrumental music shapes how we experience our favorite movies or tv shows, ask and answer questions about the instrument(s) we play, and learn more about the overall history of instrumental music.
Learning Goals
Young musicians will learn to be comfortable sharing their music with people and will learn how to listen critically to performances of music. They will also learn about instruments other than the one(s) they play, discover pieces of music or composers they didn't know before, and achieve a sense of community together.

Guidelines
Welcome to our Group! We want all of our musicians to feel comfortable, connected, and safe. That's why we have 3 rules we ask you to follow: Be Kind, Be Safe, and Be Respectful. Be Kind - Help all musicians feel welcome and included. Every musician starts somewhere. Some of us may play instruments others aren't familiar with and we all certainly play at different levels. We can suggest ways to improve our playing while also respecting where each musician is in their journey and enjoying the things they are doing well. Be Safe - Keep your personal information private and never ask other learners for theirs. Personal things are personal. We want to keep you safe on Outschool, but we also want YOU to understand how to be safe when you're meeting other musicians. Keep your full name, home address, gaming or social media name, email, and school name private. Be Respectful - Treat others how you want to be treated. Keep language clean and information you share safe. If you wouldn't say it or share with your grandma, don't do it here. Swear words, racy videos, and violent images are not allowed. Treat Outschool like a public place, and when in doubt, keep things covered.

There is a piece by her in my piano book!
I think she was saying that maybe because she was a girl she shouldn't try writing music, but she did it anyways
