The Music Discovery Club is a great place for younger kids to come and learn new songs in a fun, creative community. If you love music and you want to discover lots of ways to sing and play music, this is a great place to be. We sing and learn songs every time we meet, and we'll discover how different instruments can add great sounds to our music. We'll learn songs line by line, so you can feel comfortable. And we'll learn what our sounds look like on paper, which will help you learn to read music! Even if you don't have any experience with music, you can be successful in this music class. I hope you'll bring your voice and join us as we discover music! We will meet one time each week to... - sing fun age-appropriate songs - explore simplified music notation - learn about how voices and instruments make sound - learn songs in a variety of styles - connect with others in the group Song choices will be guided by the interests of the learners, beginning with songs such as the following: Week 1 (6/5/23): Friendship Family Week 2 (6/12/23): Music Makes Me Happy Week 3 (6/19/23): Bought Me a Cat Week 4 (6/26/23): Instruments are Fun During the first 30 minutes of each class time, we will learn the lesson material. The last 10 minutes will be open for sharing. During the sharing time, students can share a song they've been working on, or a special interest (like another instrument they are learning, or another creative talent they are developing). Students can also answer ice-breaker-type questions, like "What is your favorite kind of music." This time is designed to help the students feel the friendship and encouragement of others who share their interests. About me: In 30 years of teaching music in private lessons and public elementary schools, the most incredible moments for me have occurred when students enjoyed learning the music and felt positive personal connections. This is what I hope to bring to the many young people learning from home or hoping for more meaningful music experiences. I am positive, upbeat, and relaxed, and invite students to join in as they feel comfortable. If you are looking for a connective, nurturing, musical environment for your child or children, I hope you'll join us!

Parental Guidance
No mature content. As an art form, music often arises from sensitive historical or cultural contexts. Any historical/cultural music will be learned in a secular, informative way. Any potentially sensitive music (e.g., holidays) will be posted for parents and students to see a week before it would be used in class. If any student or parent feels uncomfortable with the selection, that music will not be used. Any student or family sensitivities (e.g., no holidays) will be treated with discretion and absolute respect.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Teacher expertise and credentials
As a university-trained music teacher, I have learned to teach music as an art form, so that people with all kinds of life experiences and beliefs can participate in making music objectively, in a safe space. I absolutely respect learner diversity, and welcome feedback on specific sensitive topics (i.e. family or cultural beliefs that make certain music sensitive). Conversations about sensitivity will be treated with the highest discretion.
