This class is perfect if you need to write a paper on an Egyptian-related subject, if you want to discover something about ancient Egypt that you haven't heard before - or go over something in depth that we talked about in a previous class.

CLASS PROCESS
Although I've listed some recommended research subjects, I encourage you to bring your own idea(s). Here's what we'll do:

1. You tell me what your research idea is. Ideally, tell me before we start the class so I can be prepared.

 2. Explain why this interests you: Do you need a topic to write on for school? Is it just out of curiosity? Is it something you know a ton about - or nothing at all?

3. We'll take your idea and "narrow it down." This makes it easier to research. For example, take the idea of "Slavery in Ancient Egypt." That's a huge topic. But if we narrow it down, we might look up:
√ How slaves were treated.
√ How were they acquired and how much did they cost?
√ How long did they live?
Of course, this is one way of dividing up this subject; there are several other ways.

4. We'll determine the length of time for research - 20 minutes or so. You can decide how you want to do it - via video, writings by other researchers, images - or a combination of any of these. Because of the limited time, we'll stick to Web-based material. (We can also write on other subjects, such as writing a paper in general, if you need to.)

5. We'll share screens and URLs/links.

6. We'll both "record" what you find. You can cut and paste information on your own document or write down notes for yourself. I'll save whatever you do so that we can continue another time if you want. I will even put your notes and links on a slide presentation like Keynote (Apple version of PowerPoint), that I can send you.

7. Present your findings:
We'll leave at least 10 minutes before the end of class to sum up what you've researched or written, discuss what you were surprised to discover - or not discover - and talk how you feel about your work: fulfilled, disappointed or needing more.

No matter what you feel, this lesson will be an absolute success because you decided the content of it and carried it through yourself!

I specialize in regular classes with no more than four students. In this class, I'm happy to have only one student.

After this class, I will message you (and your parent/caretaker). I will also include some extra files for your interest and encourage you to discover more about your chosen subject on your own.

Orientación para padres
Parents should know that ancient Egyptian images often portray nudity, and rarely, erotic features. It all depends on what the student decides to research. This is why I recommend students 13 and above in this kind of class.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I hold a Certificate of Museum Studies from Harvard University and a Diploma in Egyptology from Oxford College in England. And I’ve been to Egypt three times on personalized, educational tours.

I'm also a published writer. I've written for Cosmopolitan, Ladies Home Journal, Good Housekeeping, The Boston Globe and The Washington Post, among other publications.

I've been captivated by ancient Egypt since I was 10 years old. And I feel it's my destiny to share my enthusiasm for and expertise on this beautiful and brilliant 5000-year-old civilization with all of you. I hope to see you soon. I think you'll agree that The Egyptian Room is an attractive, fun and inspiring place to learn.
