Experiencia de clase

Nivel de inglés: desconocido
Grado de EE. UU. 2 - 4
In this STEM class, learners will be exposed to the engineering and design process (plan, create, test, improve) as they complete a STEM challenge.

Challenge: Create a foil boat that will float and hold the most 'passengers' (objects).
Materials:
-5inx6in sheet of aluminum foil. You can bring 2 or 3 prepared sheets.*
-Small objects such as pennies, buttons or large craft beads. You will need 50 or more.
-Container filled half way with water. Suggested container is a plastic shoe box sized container.
-Paper towels or towel for mopping up spills.

Learners will be engaged in a teacher led mini-lesson to understand the Engineer and Design Process (EDP). The challenge will be presented to learners. Learners will be guided through the (EDP) as they work to solve the challenge. Learners will share their foil boats live on camera.

The class is structured as teacher facilitated with learners actively engaged in a hands-on manner to work through the challenge. I will be the coach in class guiding learners as they plan, create, test their ideas and make changes to improve on their thinking.

My teaching style is flexible, relaxed and engaging. I see myself as part of the learning environment providing a safe space for budding engineers to give it a go and accept a fail (First Attempt at Learning). Learners will engage with each other and the teacher in a fluid manner throughout the class. They will share success, failure, and suggestions with each other.

*Parents will need to provide supervision as students prepare the pieces of aluminum foil as aluminum foil boxes often have sharp edges.
Metas de aprendizaje
Learners can tell the steps of the engineering and design process.
Learners will use problem solving to work through a challenge.
Learners will collaborate with others as they solve an engineering challenge.
