Squishmallow STEAM focuses on a new STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) concept each week. For each class, we'll have show & tell, followed by a lesson that includes information about that day's STEAM concept (the meaning of each letter of STEAM, examples of who uses it and why they use it, examples of that concept, etc). After the lesson, students will be guided through a STEAM experiment or project that involves using their Squishmallow. We'll talk about predictions, research, launching the experiment, outcomes, and if any redesigning of the idea would help it have a more positive outcome. Having a cuddly Squishmallow helps keep the class in full creative mode and takes away the feeling of being pressured to get the experiments right the first time (because even if a Squishmallow falls to the floor, it's still cute and we all get to giggle!). 2025 Weekly Themes: Week of April 13 - S for Science - identifying and adapting to Squishmallow animal habitats 🌎 Week of April 20 - T for Technology - making a 2D Squishmallow on a 3D object 🧊 Week of April 27 - E for Engineering - making a Squishmallow zipline 🧗🏾♀️ Week of May 4 - A for Art - tissue paper Squishmallow 💮 Week of May 11 - M for Math - Squishmallow venn diagram ⚪ Week of May 18 - S for Science - Casting a rainbow on your Squishmallow 🌈 Week of May 25 - T for Technology - Squishmallow AI (Artificial Intelligence) 🤖 ** NO CLASS on May 26 ** Students in the 5/26 class are welcome to transfer to another section this week so they don't miss out on any Squishmallow fun! You're welcome to bring any stuffy to work with! I recommended using Squishmallows or other plush friends that are between 5-16 inches tall (12.7-40.64 cm). Anything outside of that size recommendation will be difficult to work with. DISCLAIMER: Shiny Happy Kids and Outschool are in no way affiliated with Squishmallows, Jazwares, or Kelly Toys. The purpose of this class is to educate children about animals while using their privately owned Squishmallows as inspiration for weekly themes.

Shiny Happy Kids teachers have been working with students ages 3-18 in a variety of settings, from art schools and STEAM labs to libraries, summer camps, forest school, and even RPG game tables. One thing we all have in common is a dedication to creating safe, positive, inclusive spaces and experiences where kids can connect, experiment, be challenged, share their passions, and just be their wonderful selves. We want you to SHINE!
From Miss Ashley: I have always loved to work with young children! Ever since I was a kid, I was very creative in coming up with unique ways of expressing myself. That uniqueness carried over into my adult life, and that is what brings me here today! I love being a part of a child’s yearn to learn and I believe that learning is always fun. I’m a mom to two amazing kiddos, both currently in elementary school. Before having my kids, I had 7 years experience in working with children primary-aged through elementary school. I was an assistant Pre-K teacher followed by working at various summer camps through my local Parks & Recreation department. I’ve worn many hats throughout life but my favorite one is being a mom. I love my wonderful husband, my amazing kiddos, my 3 crazy cats, sewing and gardening.
