Get a $10 discount with coupon code: AASIYLEDHM10 Social skills are important for all ages. Kids between the ages of 5-8 have to face certain social circumstances that can be quite tough responding to if they never learned about it. Some examples are: How should kids respond to an unknown person? What should a kid do if he/she is lost in a mall? How should a child respond to parent/teacher feedback? This course is created for children to learn appropriate social and communication skills when it comes to responding to adults. Students will learn how to manage emotions in stressful situations along with how to respond to such situations. They will be taught actions that they can take along with words and phrases they can use. We will also practice roleplay in order to apply everything we learned. This class is open to students from all around the world; however, the curriculum I will be using is an American/Canadian curriculum that has been appreciated worldwide. This class is open to all students. I believe learning should be implemented for all kinds of students. I highly recommend it for students with ADHD or in the autism spectrum, since learning emotional regulation and communication skills can help amplify their potential. If your child has any learning disability or any learning needs, please send out a message regarding their learning needs and what you believe they'd find helpful and I will prepare accordingly in order to provide your child with the best experience. Here are the topics that will be presented in this class: Week 1: Introduction class. - Different communication strategies. - The problem with being 'too polite' and suppressing needs and emotions. - The problem with the unhealthy expression of emotions. - The correct way to communicate and get your needs met from adults. - Assertive communication sentence patterns to fill in anytime. Week 2: What should we do if we are lost from a parent? Scenario: You are lost in a mall and separated from your parent. What should you do? - How to keep yourself calm in such situations. - How to identify safe strangers. - What phrases should we use when asking for help. ** Homework handout: In the worksheet provided, list your parents' full name, address, and phone number. Take this week to memorize your contact information. Week 3: Strangers- What should we do if a stranger approaches us? When is it appropriate to interact with strangers? Scenario: A stranger approaches you and tells you that your parent sent them to pick you up. What should you do? How should you react? - How to react with confidence rather than fear. - Where should we go for help? ** Homework handout: Make a list of trustable adults you know and who your parents will trust you with. Week 4: Interrupting conversations- When is it appropriate to interrupt conversations? What is the right method to interrupt conversations? Scenario: Your parents are talking on the phone and you really want to tell them something. What should you do? - Identifying when someone is busy. - How to interrupt when there's an emergency. - How can you keep yourself entertained when you feel bored? - **Homework handout: Let's create a busy box. Week 5: Taking feedback from others (parents and teachers) and enabling a growth mindset Scenario: What should you do if your parent says 'do better next time or "this wasn't your best job." What should you do if you feel offended by feedback? - How to take feedback in a positive way. - How to give feedback to others in a positive way. **Homework handout: Learning from feedback.
