Tarea
1 hora por semana. Students are encouraged to practice their social skills at home and in other situations but the homework is not mandatory or graded.

Experiencia de clase

This PEERS® class for teens is a evidence-based social skills intervention for teens in middle and high school who are interested in learning new ways of making and keeping friends. During each group session, teens are taught important social skills and are given the opportunity to practice these skills in session during socialization activities. PEERS® may be appropriate for teens with Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Anxiety, Depression or other social and behavioral disorders. Each week students are introduced to a new concept via PowerPoint slides, videos, and dialogue and then get the opportunity to practice that skill in class. 

Teens will learn how to:
• Use appropriate conversational skills
• Use humor appropriately
• Use electronic communication
• Enter & exit conversations
• Handle arguments and disagreements
• Change a bad reputation
• Handle rumors and gossip
• Handle rejection, teasing, and bullying

Week 1 Lesson: Learn to trade information within conversations. 
Week 2 Lesson: Learn to have a two-way conversation. 
Week 3 Lesson: Learn how to use electronic information
Week 4 Lesson: Learn the use of appropriate humor.
Week 5 Lesson: Learn how to start and exit conversations
Week 6 Lesson: Learn how to handle teasing 
Week 7 Lesson:Learn how to handle physical bullying and change a bad reputation 
Week 8 Lesson:Learn how to handle disagreements with friends
Week 9 Lesson: Learn how to handle cyber bullying and minimize rumors and gossip
Week 10 Lesson: Celebrate our achievements and discuss where to go from here.

Please note: This class is not therapeutic in nature but does present social skill concepts and encourages students to practice them in everyday situations.

Necesidades de aprendizaje
This class is can help all students but is specifically designed to assist students with autism. Social skills may not come easily to them and this class provides the skills and knowledge for them to build confidence on this area.
Orientación para padres
This class does cover topics that can be emotional triggers for some students such as bullying. Students will not need to discuss how they practiced the skill during that week or give any previous examples of bullying. The teacher will be giving some tips on proper responses to bullying in social situations. This class will not be therapeutic in nature and only presents social skill concepts and encourages students to practice them in everyday situations.
