This class will teach basic physics concepts by having students build projects. Each week the students will be assigned a project and we will go over the physics behind the project. We will discuss the parameters that the students must operate within and safety concerns of each project as well as tips and materials necessary. Part of the class will also be spent analyzing the results of the previous challenge as well.Students will have a one page lab report to complete with each project. Session 1: What is Physics and Engineering? Build a Cantilever Bridge Session 2: Newton's Third Law - Balloon Race Car Session 3: Projectile Motion- Ball Launch Catapult Challenge Session 4: Momentum- Egg Drop Challenge Session 5: Kinetic and Potential energy- Mousetrap Car Session 6: Electricity and Magnetism- Electric Motor Session 7: Air Pressure- Can Crusher Session 8: The Speed of Light- Experiment:Use a Microwave Oven to find the speed of light Session 9: Magnetism- Home made compass Session 10: Energy Conversions- Rube Goldberg Machine Session 11: Sound- Rubber Band Bass Guitar Session 12: Static Electricity- Electric Balloons Session 13: Light Diffraction -Pinhole Camera Session 14: Momentum-Newton's cradle Session 15: Sound-Make an amplifier Session 16: Light- Make a Light Bulb The goal of this class is to be highly interactive. Students will be encouraged to film their experiments and share them with others during class. No previous knowledge of Physics is required. Some basic Algebra is recommended but not necessary.
