In this class students will learn the basics of high school physics by looking at real life examples and examples from their favorite books, movies and television shows. The class is highly interactive and students are encouraged to ask questions. Students will practice solving equations and reflecting on what they have learned. Students will also participate in a review game at the end of every class. No prior knowledge of physics is necessary but some knowledge of basic algebra is needed. Week 1 - Periodic Motion Students will build and test a pendulum Week 2 - Waves -Wavelength, Frequency, and Speed Students will make waves and measure them Week 3 - Sound, Students will investigate the nature of sound Week 4 - Doppler Effect, Reflection, Refraction, Diffraction, Absorption Students will investigate sound waves and how they interact Week 5 - Electromagnetic Waves and Radiation, The Electromagnetic Spectrum Students will complete the wave town Week 6 - Speed of Light Students will calculate the speed of light Week 7 - Visible Light, Colors and Optical Illusions Students will see how light interacts and how it is different than pigment Week 8 - Reflection and Refraction Students will learn how light interacts with objects Week 9 - Lenses and Lasers Students will learn how lasers and lenses work Week 10 - Einstein and Special Relativity Students will calculate relativistic changes Week 11 - Einstein and General Relativity Students will explore gravitational waves Week 12 - Heat and Temperature Students will differentiate between heat and temperature Week 13 - Laws of Thermodynamics Students will explore entropy and the laws of thermodynamics Week 14 - Electricity and magnetism Students will differentiate between static electricity and current and compare to magnetism Week 15 - Electricity and Circuits Students will create series and parallel circuits and calculate voltage, current and resistance Week 16 -Final exam and wrap up of any questions
