Before taking this class, I recommend taking my One Time Class (Private 1:1 Tutoring: Initial Assessment and Meet & Greet) as this class is created so that I can assess your learner and get to know you and your child.

During our tutoring sessions, learners will be exposed to a variety of fiction and non-fiction texts and will explore the elements of fiction and non-fiction. While reading these texts, we will engage in discussions that will promote comprehension skills, inferencing, and analyzing, and foster critical thinking skills. These discussions will also enhance speaking and listening skills. I will be working closely with learners so that they are able to organize their thoughts and write cohesive reading responses. Learners will be guided through the entire process and have fun playing games and completing activities that will further reinforce class topics.

We will be using the RACE (Restate, Answer, Cite, Explain) method in order to respond to the literature. Below are topics that learners will be able to write about:

- Learners will understand what genre is and what different types of genres exist. They will also understand what elements are needed to create specific genres.
- Learners will be able to analyze characters based on character thoughts, actions, and feelings.
- Learners will be able to analyze five plot elements in a story.
- Learners will be able to analyze the setting of a story and how this affects other story elements.
- Learners will be able to identify the author's point of view.
- Learners will be able to identify the author's purpose.
- Learners will be able to identify cause and effect relationships.
- Learners will be able to compare and contrast two texts.
- Learners will be able to differentiate facts vs. opinions.
- Learners will be able to identify the main idea and supporting details.
- Learners will be able to draw conclusions and make inferences by evaluating a text's resources and evidence.
- Learners will be able to identify who a narrator is in the story and what their point of view is.
- Learners will be able to identify and analyze problems and solutions in a text.

**SCHEDULING: In order to best accommodate your schedule, please message me so that we can work out days and times that work!

Hi, I’m Sarah, and I’m passionate about helping children become confident, successful readers.

With over a decade of experience in education, including teaching dual-language kindergarten and running my own tutoring business, I specialize in providing personalized, explicit phonics instruction to emergent and struggling readers.

My journey began when I noticed a lack of accessible and practical curriculums tailored to meet the needs of diverse learners. This inspired me to create my own, blending foundational literacy with engaging, research-based techniques. Since then, I’ve worked with students from Kindergarten through 5th grade, helping them master everything from phonics and fluency to comprehension and vocabulary development.

I believe that every child learns differently, which is why I design individualized lesson plans based on assessments and ongoing progress monitoring. My data-driven approach ensures that every session meets your child where they are and takes them where they need to go.

When I’m not teaching, I love spending time with my family and my little one and exploring creative ways to make learning fun. Whether your child is just starting out or needs extra support to thrive, I’m here to help them build a strong foundation for lifelong reading success.

Let’s work together to unlock your child’s reading potential!

Crendentials:
-Bachelor of Art degree with a concentration in Psychology.
-Master's of Science in Childhood Education.
-Master's Extension in Early Childhood Education and Dual Language Education.
-New York State Teaching Certificates in Childhood Education, Early Childhood Education, and Dual Language Education.
