I use a range of evidence-based methods such as touch points, visuals and imagery, fact family drills and concepts, estimation to guide reasoning, mathematical language, and world problem comprehension. I also create custom presentations and games that will keep students engaged while learning. What makes this class different? I have worked with hundreds of students over the years, and I understand that students who are having trouble with mathematical concepts need more individualized support. When designing this class, I thought about what would make an online learning environment safe, supportive, and productive. Large classes for students who have a history of difficulty in math have limited effectiveness due to anxiety, learned helplessness, a lack of self-confidence, and shyness. Students are able to be passive learners more easily and often get left behind. That is why I designed this class to have a maximum of 7 students so that I can make sure each student gets a chance to contribute to their learning experiences.
