Experiencia de clase

This course is meant to introduce young learners to the martial arts in a fun and engaging way, as well as give them some space to get the wiggles out. The pace of the class is quick and energetic, and students are encouraged to keep trying and improving their new skills.

Each week will have a focus skill that operates on a rotating basis. Whatever the focus skill of the week is will receive extra time in class. Week 1 of the month will focus on punches and blocks. Week 2 will focus on kicks. Week 3 will focus on falling. Week 4 will focus on combinations. If there is a fifth week to the month, it will focus on counting and review. Learners will not be behind no matter when they join, as all skills will be worked on every class, even if they are not the focus skill that week.

For a class starting on August 1, the weekly breakdown would be:
Week of August 1: Punches and Blocks
Week of August 8: Kicks
Week of August 15: Falling
Week of August 22: Combinations
Week of August 29: Counting and Review

This general format of each class is below:
Bow in and warm up
Punches/Strikes and blocks
Kicks
Combinations of hand and foot techniques
Falling
Counting in Korean
Stretching and cool down
Bow out

Each class will vary in which techniques we use, but will pull from the following pool:
Straight punches
Spearhand/Knifehand (karate chop) strikes
High/Middle/Box block
Front/Crescent (Rainbow) kick
Seated rolling
Seated and standing back falls
Numbers 1-20 in Korean

As the class progresses, additional techniques may be added, as students express interest or ability, and as fits a virtual format.

Orientación para padres
While karate can be a violent sport and injuries can occur, there will be virtually no risk of that in this class. The focus of the class is on physical skills and body movement. Having a parent helper can also ensure that your learner doesn't fling themselves into anything dangerous (such as walls or lamps). But for the most part, we will do all of our kicking and punching and falling in one spot, so that I can better see all the learners and assist those who need help.
