Do you struggle with reading in science and history class? Do you find it difficult to sequence events or write a summary?
Is reading easy, but learning from the reading a challenge? Let me help you improve your informational reading skills for social studies and science class. 

Using a visual presentation of a weekly article,  students will be taught text features and structures that are commonly found in informational reading. 

Each class includes vocabulary and phonics instruction that will help students to be successful in reading the article. 

Vocabulary is often content specific, but may include other words that are unfamiliar or confusing for elementary learnters. 

Grammar instruction reviews  prefix, root, and suffix identification that is useful for decoding new words. 

Students will practice reading strategies that allow them to identify key terms and ideas in addition to learning how to summarize passages. 

Students will learn how to infer and use critical thinking skills and understand that non-fiction passages are read differently than fiction passages.

Students should be reading at a 4th-grade reading level or above for this course. Students do not need to have prior science or history knowledge to be successful in this course.
