Students will be assigned weekly self-paced homework assignments.Experiencia de clase
During this flexible learning course, learners will explore the basics of how to sell items they already have in their house on an online platform to earn an income. This is a flexible schedule, asynchronous learning class with four separate lessons. However, depending on enrollment or a student’s needs, office hours may be scheduled. During Lesson 1, the presentations will briefly cover some of the various platforms that can be used for selling items online and the components of a good listing. Students will review how to take a good photograph for a listing, how to write a descriptive listing, and how to determine an appropriate price. Students will participate in a poll about what type of item they hope to sell. For our first assignment, using the nearpod collaborate feature, students will begin the brainstorming process by adding images and details related to their listing to their board. Peers can view and comment on their classmate's ideas. During the second lesson, students will have a class discussion regarding items they have brainstormed to sell online. Learners will share the photos and content of their draft listing and receive feedback from the teacher. We will learn more details about each selling platform, such as seller fees, shipping options, what sells best, and customer reach. Students will complete a poll about which platform they want to use. Our second assignment will be to edit our listings based on feedback and begin researching how their item, or similar items, sells on different websites. For lesson three, students will decide which platform is best for their item. We will learn about the specific fees and shipping associated with each platform. We will learn about shipping methods and materials. Learners will create an online listing for at least one item. Students will have a checklist to use as a guide. Students will participate in a poll about the type of shipping they will use. For the third assignment, students will make edits and post their draft listing to the teacher or to the class for feedback. The teacher will conference, either via video or Outschool conversations, to discuss the good points of each listing as well as areas that could be improved. During the last lesson, learners will review their peers' final listings and leave positive comments for each listing. Students will learn the formula out the profits based on the price we choose and platform fees. Each student will input their product and platform fees to determine potential profit on a collaborative slide in Nearpod. Learners may share any comments or questions with the teacher and/or their peers. Students will complete a final edit of their listing according to the discussion and by the end of class will be ready to publish their listing for sale. We will review strategies to get our listing sold and how to ship an item once it has been purchased. The final assignment is to publish and sell your item! The teacher will review and approve the final listing. Students are encouraged to share once their items have sold!

Hello Parents and Learners!
Thanks for stopping by! My name is Megan Elder, and I am passionate about planning lessons that cater to a variety of learning styles. I love to integrate multiple content areas and activate all five senses! I believe that by incorporating student interests and real life applications into academic lessons, all learners can access the curriculum and build upon their strengths to succeed.
I am an unschooling and homeschooling mom of three young children and we reside in coastal North Carolina. Before I became a parent, I was a classroom teacher for students with diverse learning styles. Many of my students required supports and accommodations to access the curriculum. I am always in awe of students who persevere despite challenges and I understand the additional burden virtual learning can be for children who learn best in person. I strive to make lessons engaging and inclusive. By incorporating video, sound, GIFs, real life photo and animations, movement and games, students are exposed to content in a new and fun way, and learn without even knowing it!
I enjoy taking my own children’s lead in our learning activities at home and many of my classes are inspired by or include activities I have created to help them learn new skills. We love to find new ways to make learning a part of living by researching, creating our own books, cooking, exploring nature and experimenting! I look forward to bringing our love of learning to your family in the virtual classroom!
Teaching Experience:
I was a teacher for students with Autism in the Northern Virginia area for about eight years. After having my second child, I became a stay at home mom and occasional substitute teacher. In 2017 I began teaching English as a Second Language online. Most recently, I have planned and taught lessons from PE to Geography for my children’s homeschool co-op. I have really enjoyed fine tuning my teaching skills with a variety of instructional roles over the years. Inclusion is very important to me and I make it a point to differentiate my lessons to appeal to a variety of unique learning styles.
Education:
I received my Bachelor's in Special Education from Kent State University with a focus on students with moderate to intensive needs. After having some classroom experience, I earned my Master’s of Science in Education, with a focus on Concepts of Teaching and Learning K-12, from Capella University.
I have held both Ohio and Virginia State Teaching Licenses. My license endorsements include Emotional Disabilities, Autism, Specific Learning Disabilities, and Cognitive Disabilities. I also held an Ohio Substitute Teaching License.
I earned a TESOL Certification from International Open Academy. I was also certified to use the Wilson Reading Program. I have received a variety of trainings on integrating technology into the classroom, visual supports, differentiation of instruction, and behavior management while teaching in public school districts and online. I provide tools for students to succeed in every lesson!
I look forward to seeing your learner in the classroom!
