Experiencia de clase

This On-going class is designed for students familiar with the mechanics of D&D 5E (however beginners are welcome). Students will begin at 1st level and proceed according to experience points gained through creative thinking, clever stratagems, and audacious action in pursuit of mission accomplishment.

Students will join a group of adventurers hoping to make a name for themselves in the Faerun in the solving the problems these draconic scourges have caused for centuries in the communities of the Sword Coast. Not all dragons are meant to be fought! Often we will need to tap into the immense knowledge these dragons have gained over the centuries to solve other mysteries. The adventurers must work together to prevent the summoning the god-like dragon Tiamat and the destruction of Faerun.

(This D&D Adventure is a combination of EVERY dragon related module from 1st to 5th edition! Plus those from mythology and my own imagination) We will be using D&D 5E rules and especially those recently released in Fizban's Treasury.....hundreds of exciting adventures!)

Students may assume any official D&D 5E race and class subject to the Dungeon Master's (DM) approval during our "Session Zero" (Orientation class)

Each session is meant to promote the THREE PILLARS of ADVENTURE: role play, exploration, and (of course) combat in the exciting world of D&D 5E. Many and varied environments will be explored (i.e., deserts, woodlands, swamps, etc.). A HIGH emphasis upon role play and teamwork is expected - students will be expected to act as their player character during the class to gain the full experience of adventure.

This is an adventure campaign steeped in the legends and lore of the world of Faerun - a popular D&D setting used for many of the current modules. Therefore students will gain a great deal of experience and knowledge in this setting for other adventures.

FIRST CLASS (12 Nov) Session Zero - character creation and discussion of D&D 5E rules - MUST be signed on to Roll20 for character creation.

There are MANY, MANY dragons in the Sword Coast - All adventures will follow the basic format for EACH Dragon Hunt:

(6 Feburary) Session One - Dragon Quest Begins
(13 February) Session Two - Encounters in pursuit of our Quarry
(20 February) Session Three - Finding the dragon's lair
(27 February) Session Four - The Hunt is On!
(6 March) Session Five - The Showdown

Classes will repeat the cycle above - Depending upon the level of teamwork and accomplishment of the group some phases will take several sessions to finish, thus no rigid timetable has been established since we do not want to rush our experiences.

THIS CLASS REQUIRES a minimum of FIVE (5) adventures (students) to accomplish these challenging missions.

SAMPLE WYRMS (DRAGONS) we will encounter during the class:

KLAUTH "OLD SNARL" - The nasty brutality of this huge old red wyrm has become a watchword in the Sword Coast North, passing into common speech in such expressions as these: "Don't go near him early of mornings; he's apt to be a right Klauth until he's had a bite." Or, "Blood and bodies everywhere . . . it looked as though old Klauth himself had come calling!" Or the shorter variant (used to describe butchery): "Regular Klauth work!" The habitual facial expression of this much-scarred wyrm has won him the popular nickname of "Old Snarl."

IYMRITH, "THE DRAGON OF STATUES" investigations of Volo include some confused notes about a "desert-dwelling giant blue dragon that seems to have some magical link with a . . . way of surviving sandstorms? Special magic?" Elminster has consented to lay bare rather more than such cryptic queries about the Doom of the Desert, Iymrith, the blue dragon of the Chill Sands. Few folk of the North ever see this legendary "Dragon of the Statues" unless they brave the frigid wastes of Anauroch east of ruined Ascore, or dare to explore the Netherese ruins scattered up and down the Fallen Lands along the western edge of the Great Desert. Iymrith roams these regions tirelessly. She is engaged in an extended exploration of the surviving ruins of Netheril and has already gained much old magic from them. She has also developed quite a few unusual spells. Perhaps the most important of these is the magic that has kept her alive thus far: force burn, a spell derived from magic left behind by Netherese mages that is deadly to the subterranean race known as the phaerimms. Fear of it has driven them to ignore Iymrith rather than turning their power to the task of destroying her.

RAULOTHIM, "THE SILENT SHADOW" A century ago, the huge emerald dragon known as "the "Silent Shadow" could be seen at well-nigh every important event in the Sword Coast North -- gliding overhead, just watching. He never spoke (hence his sobriquet) and ignored most attempts to hail or attack him, serenely observing from an aloof distance and flying away when challenged -- but otherwise "always there" and missing nothing. Some barbarians thought him a "watching spirit" who reported to their own totem spirits or to strange gods; some sages and mages considered him a spy in service to some sinister cabal -- a belief encouraged by false confirmations announced by several sorcerous brotherhoods seeking to impress others.

Over the past 30 years I have taught I.G.C.S.E, A-Level, I.B., and A.P. History throughout the Atlantic region in both private and public school settings. During that time I have instructed students in a variety of rigorous exam subjects . I am a strong advocate of "immersion education" (historic setting RPG) in the Social Studies classroom. My passion is Military History, which I have been enthusiastically studying my entire life. My present RPG classes involve a number of embedded lessons learned (empathy, teamwork, problem solving, decision-making, etc.) through the Three Pillars of Adventure: Exploration, Role-playing, and Fantasy Combat. My Battles & Generals classes are akin to an "On-Going, interactive discussion-based documentary" as one student put it not too long ago....and that seems about right.
