Experiencia de clase
Nivel de inglés: desconocido
Grado de EE. UU. 4 - 7
This class will serve primarily as a social gathering for fans of the show How to Train Your Dragon and give students an opportunity to interact with others who share this interest. Each week we will have a topic related to the show, book, tv special or movie and students can bring their opinions, songs, questions, and answers (and yes, of course TOYS) to share with the group. Each discussion will begin with a scenario or question which will be sent out prior to the week's meeting. Week 1 :...
- Students will learn respectful interactions with other fans and how to use their social skills and digital interaction etiquette to have a fun and colorful conversation. I will also be there to provide some scientific insight where I can. Topics will proceed as follows and be updated monthly: Week 1 : Show and Tell Toys, books, and stories. Share your favorites! Handmade toys and drawings for bonus kudos! Week 2: What if? - We explore hypotheses around the history and lore of dragons. Hypothetical fights, pairings, or powers! Week 3: Dragon genetics - How might certain dragon traits be passed down from one generation to the next? Week 4: Dragon Training - How does that work? How do we train our pets? What types of animal behavior are at play in the dragon movies/shows? Ongoing topics include: Student generated ideas and topics, Q&As, monthly Kahoot Trivia, and annual Dragon Tournament over the summer.
I worked as a marine biologist for many years, followed by 9 years in a veterinary pathology laboratory, followed by 14 years in public school teaching. I have two young children of my own who are also big fans of the How to Train Your Dragon franchise and have watched the movies, read the books, and seen the shows more than adults probably should.

Sometimes student-driven topics can range from the bizarre to the anatomical. All material will be managed in a G rated way. As a biologist, if asked about reproduction I do use and encourage parents to use anatomically accurate terms but tend to steer the conversation away from those topics when they come up.
