Los estudiantes explorarán el proceso de codificación del ADN para ARN y proteínas a través de modelos prácticos. Modelar mejora la comprensión e imagina la emoción adicional de poder disfrutar de tu creación después.

  • Students should leave this lesson with a solid grasp of the structures of DNA, RNA, and proteins. Additionally, they should be able to articulate the invaluable role these molecules play in organisms.
I taught in public school for 10 years and I have been in the online teaching sector since 2020.

Detalles: I will share an assessment at the end of class (on the class page as an announcement) students can try. This will allow them to recap all we discussed in class and, hopefully, show them that modeling is a great way to help them learn a new (or old) concept.
Below are ALL the supplies students need for the entire model. In parenthesis, I have alternatives that can be used.

Approx. 30 Toothpicks (or sticks, coffee stirring straws - nothing too large and something that can pierce through the next thing on this list).

Multicolor marshmallows (ideally, we want FIVE colors. In the event you can't find packs with 5 colors, have your learner color a couple marshmallows a different color...they obviously wouldn't want to eat those!)
****(alternative to marshmallows: multicolor gummy bears, multicolor gummy worms (cut in 1/4s, those sour gummies with TWO colors cut in half would also work, ANY gummy candy (there are so many different options - feel free to MESSAGE me with a picture of what you have and I will let you know if it will work!)

Twizzlers (or any candy that is in the shape of a thick rope like a twizzler)

Large paper -- just take 2 piece of computer paper and tape it together

Markers, pens, crayons - anything to write with (just not a pencil as it won't show up on the screen when we show each other's work.

Pair of scissors (or one of the twizzlers pre-cut for class)

------NON EDIBLE OPTION----
Playdough or clay. Just make sure to have at least 6-7 different colors

Email me for a digital cut and paste version that students can complete. Please email me 24 hours ahead of time. It is recommended that it's printed on card-stock or something thicker than white paper. Students should also follow the instructions on the document before class (color coding) so that they are able to follow along as we move through. Unfortunately, time will not be given for coloring :)
