Qué está incluido

18 reuniones en vivo
16 horas 30 minutos horas presenciales
Tarea
2-4 horas por semana. The homework is the notebook pages provided to students to complete for the rest of the week. They can split up the work how they choose, but I will provide a weekly pacing guide to help them!
Evaluación
Students will have an assessment of some kind once per week. Google forms, short answer documents, and gaming style assessments will be offered.
Calificación
GRADE ARE BY REQUEST ONLY and it is very important that this is communicated with me the first week of class.

Experiencia de clase

Nivel de inglés - A1
Grado de EE. UU. 9 - 11
Nivel Beginner - Intermediate
What will be taught? The NC state standards for Biology.

On Live Class Days: We will discuss expectations for the week and I will lecture on the toughest concepts to be covered that week. As the weeks progress, the first 10 minutes will be dedicated to student questions from the week before. We will discuss notebooks and go over concepts students struggled with. The remainder of the class will be teacher lead practice, lectures, and doodles to help students understand the materials for the upcoming week.

On non-live days: students will be given a digital notebook for every unit. Students will be asked to complete the assigned pages for the week to be better prepared for the following week. The notebook pages provide the student will additonal practice covered during lecture (live class) and new things. New topics within the notebook will always have supporting documents (and teacher made/non-teacher made videos), games, and activities. I am also readily available for questions during the week!

I love Biology and can talk about it all day! :)

What topics will be covered? Ecological Relationships and Energy Transfer, Macromolecules, Cells (structure/function), Cell Transport, Cell Energy, Genetics (Mitosis, Meiosis, Protein Synthesis, Human Genetics), Evolution, and Classification. All materials will be provided.

Here is a quick break down of all the units covered. Your learner will receive a guided notebook for each unit with practice, lesson videos, notes, quizzes, tests, and labs!

Unit 1: Biomolecules (Carbs, Lipids, Proteins, Nucleic Acids, Enzymes)
Unit 2: Cells, Cell Transport (Animals, Plants, Prokaryotes, and Eukaryotes - and how stuff gets in!)
Unit 3: Energetics (Photorespiration)
Unit 4: Mitosis vs Meiosis, Cancer (cells dividing ....or over dividing)
Unit 5: DNA, Protein Synthesis, and Mutations (How DNA codes for RNA...and why that's important!)
Unit 6: Biotechnology (DNA technology and its many uses)
Unit 7: Simple and Complex Genetics (Blood types, sex linked traits, and building monsters!)
Unit 8: Evolution and Classification (how did we get here and what category do we fit in?)
Unit 9: Ecological Relationships (symbiosis and energy transfer) and Human Impact
Unit 10: Final Exam Prep/Final Exam

No experience is required as that is my purpose! It would be beneficial to have a science background (8th grade level sciences) to help with the level of vocabulary that will be introduced. Students should already have a basic understanding of science - but I will build on the rest.

Note: The work provided for this course is rigorous. Attentiveness and effort will be expected to succeed and master the vocabulary. Please understand that the amount of effort your learner puts in to this class will determine how much they learn. I have designed this class to be just as you were sitting in a Biology classroom. Lots of practice, lots of reading, lots of working.
Metas de aprendizaje

Necesidades de aprendizaje
I teach this course using a variety of methods: Visual biology/doodles, learning through gaming, interactive videos, interactive assignments using the digital notebooks, and music. I hope to reach every type of learner.
Lista de útiles escolares
Students need a google account to use the documents I will share. All assignments are on a google document so that students can manipulate the assignment and I can view it real time. Labs do come up, but those needs will always be shared ONE WEEK before they occur. Some labs will be demos and I will do them in class- I will share these with the students and then they are welcome to do them too!
