*Take $10 off this course through January 31st with code SHANNMBQN710 Welcome, bakers! This course is a great starting place for learners who would love to begin their cake decorating journey or kids who would simply like to try something new and creative! This course is awesome because students have the flexibility to make and decorate their cakes whenever there is time in their schedule. Kids can start videos, rewatch tricky sections, or pause for a break at any time. Students will receive one lesson per week. Each lesson contains a written introduction to the week's topic, at least one instructional video with demonstrations of the techniques, and any necessary recipe. Videos are focused on the instructor's hands, so students can see what is happening. The videos have voice-overs so students can clearly hear instructions. If students are viewing these lessons as a self-paced class, they can send me pictures of their work! I will respond to student messages within 36 hours. Each week's lesson should take students 1-2 hours to complete. In this course, students will first learn how to bake cakes. They will start with how to fancy up a box cake mix for a fluffier, tastier cake. Then they will try a cake from scratch. For the rest of the class, students can use either technique for their cakes. Students will also learn how to make a buttercream frosting early on so that they have something to put on their cakes! When decorating, students will first learn how to put a crumb coat on their cake. Next, they will practice different border patterns, such as the bubbles and shells, as seen in the pictures above. Then they will work on some flowers, like the simple drop flowers you can see on the cupcake in the cover photo. I will also demonstrate a slightly more intricate rose, like the flowers you can see on the purple cake in the cover photo. I will provide some tips and tricks I have for writing on cakes as well. However, we will not spend as much time on writing. This course is fantastic for beginners! We will start with the basics, which mean your learner does not need prior baking experience. If you have a young learner or a learner who isn’t familiar around a kitchen, please provide supervision. Students will be working with hot ovens and raw eggs.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will learn the basics about baking and decorating cakes.
Programa de estudios
4 Lecciones
más de 4 semanasLección 1:
Box Cake and Buttercream Frosting
In this lesson, students will learn how to make a box cake mix with a yummy twist! A few small adjustments to a box mix can make a delicious and moist cake. Students will also learn how to make a buttercream frosting. This can be customized to a student's flavor preference.
Lección 2:
Cake From Scratch
In this lesson, students will learn how to make a vanilla cake from scratch. This means that students will need to start from nothing but ingredients! A cake from scratch is a good challenge for beginner bakers.
Lección 3:
Crumb Coat and Borders
In this lesson, students will learn how to use a crumb coat on their cakes before decorating. This is important because it will keep the cake crumbs out of the final frosting layer and decorations. Students will also try some cake border patterns that they can add to the edges of their cakes.
Lección 4:
Roses and Drop Flowers
In this final lesson, students will learn how to make roses and drop flowers from buttercream frosting. These are beautiful decorations for any cake and are an exciting skill to learn! At this point, students will be able to bake a cake, make frosting, frost the cake, add a border, and decorate with flowers.

My grandmother made beautiful, elaborate cakes for birthdays and weddings. She passed some of her expertise on to me when I started to show interest in cake decorating. I have made cakes and cupcakes for birthdays, graduation parties, and anniversaries. I have taken additional cake decorating classes as well.
