*Prior knowledge is required before taking this course!* Students must know the basics of sentence diagramming. Students must have an understanding of how to set up a sentence diagram. They must know how to diagram modifiers, such as adjectives, adverbs, and prepositional phrases. Students should understand predicate adjectives, predicate adverbs, direct objects, and indirect objects. If students have taken my first sentence diagramming course, they are ready for this one! This course is all about advancing beyond basic sentence diagramming practices and enhancing student writing through knowledge of sentence structure. Students will learn about things such as active and passive voice, complex sentences, compound-complex sentences, and verbals. We will also practice these different grammar techniques in writing. Students WILL have a short assignment between each class. This will most often be a short writing prompt asking students to use certain types of techniques or sentences. These assignments should not take students more than 30 minutes to complete. I am an energetic and enthusiastic educator. Though sentence diagramming may be a dull topic to some, I believe students feel my excitement about the topic. Students will be asked to share their work and diagram out loud. I will always be supportive and encouraging so that students feel comfortable and confident.

Lección 1:
Diagramming Basics Review
In this first lesson, students will review diagramming the basics. The lesson will overview everything from Beginner Sentence Diagramming: subjects, linking verbs, transitive verbs, intransitive verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositional phrases, coordinating conjunctions, and compound parts. This single lesson is NOT enough for students to feel confident about diagramming all of these parts of speech. This is simply meant as a reminder of the things they should already know.

Lección 2:
Interrogative and Imperative Sentences
This lesson will cover interrogative and imperative sentences. There are four types of sentences, but declarative and exclamatory sentences are very straightforward. Students will learn how to diagram interrogative sentences by ensuring that the subject comes first in the sentence before they attempt to diagram. Students will learn about the implied "You" of imperative sentences. They will practice diagramming both.

Lección 3:
Interjections and Nouns of Direct Address
In this lesson, students will learn about the very last part of speech that I haven't covered in other diagramming courses- interjections! Interjections and nouns of direct address are diagrammed the same because neither is grammatically related to the rest of the sentence. Students will practice adding this new technique into their diagrams.

Lección 4:
Passive and Active Verbs
This lesson will cover the difference between active and passive verbs. Writing instructors often ask students to use active voice in their writing, but many students don't understand what exactly that means! Seeing the difference in active vs passive verbs will help students identify and use active voice. Students will practice diagramming passive and active voice sentences.
