No prior knowledge is required for this class. The Minoan Civilisation was an ancient society that has fascinated experts since its rediscovery in the 19th century CE. We will look at how this civilisation traded with Egypt and the near East, even though their written language has not been deciphered as yet. The Minoans were essentially the first to establish civilised states in Europe, in what has become known as the Aegean Palace Civilisation. We will examine what natural resources were accumulated and traded, along with the political complexity and enduring mysteries of this early society. Their abrupt demise will also be discussed, along with the possible reasons for the end of The Minoan Civilisation.
