This one-time course is designed to help students explore alternative ways to pay for college or earn college credits to reduce the cost of college. The teacher will cover the following during class time: FAFSA, searching for and applying for scholarships, dual enrollment, Advanced Placement (AP) courses, International Baccalaureate (IB) programs, CLEP exams, and parental dependent employment benefits and more. The teacher will start by asking students about their plans for college and potential majors or careers they are considering. Then, using PowerPoint, the teacher will review different ways students can earn college credits prior to starting college and ways students can earn college credits without taking college-level classes. The teacher will then discuss ways to pay for college and reduce debt. The teacher will briefly review the FAFSA, but the focus will be on alternative ways to pay for college besides submitting the FAFSA. At the end of class, the teacher will conduct an engaging activity using Kahoot to assess students' learning. Students are encouraged to share their comments and ask questions.
