Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
Hello! In this self paced class I will provide learners with strategies for written response questions and essay writing on ELA assessments. I have been teaching English to young learners for over ten years, both in the classroom and remotely. As a certified New York state English Language Arts and Special Education teacher, I've spent countless hours going over Common Core standards for reading and writing. I have also taken part in assessment creation and grading committees.

I review reading and writing strategies while modeling live writing to build learner confidence. My goal is for students to see that writing is a process. I will also review strategies for planning and writing a comparative literary analysis essay.

There will be several various genres of text that learners are going to be exposed to including historical fiction, fantasy fiction, and nonfiction articles. Learners will have the opportunity to practice writing at least 5 written responses and 2 comparative essays that appear on ELA assessments starting in grade 3. I also include a lesson on how to write a narrative, as some ELA tests include narrative writing prompts.
Learning Goals
Read a historical fiction passage and answer 2 comprehension analysis short response questions.
Students will be able to read a passage and answer comprehension/analysis short response questions related to the text with textual evidence to support claims.
