Welcome to "Mastering Reading Comprehension," an engaging and interactive online course designed specifically for students in grades two and three! This class is tailored to enhance your child's reading comprehension skills, focusing on both multiple-choice and written response formats that are commonly encountered in school assessments and standardized tests. What We'll Cover: Understanding Text Structure: Learn to identify and analyze different text structures like narrative, expository, descriptive, and persuasive. This skill will help students navigate through various reading materials with ease. Strategies for Multiple Choice Questions: Dive into techniques for approaching multiple-choice questions, including how to eliminate incorrect answers, make educated guesses, and understand what types of questions are commonly asked. Crafting Written Responses: Students will practice writing clear, concise, and well-structured responses to comprehension questions. We'll explore how to cite evidence from the text, organize thoughts logically, and express ideas effectively. Vocabulary Building: Expand your vocabulary with fun, educational games and activities that will not only improve understanding but also enrich the quality of written responses. Critical Thinking: Develop higher-order thinking skills by engaging with texts that challenge students to infer, predict, and connect to personal experiences or other texts. Practice with Real Texts: Each session will include activities where students apply what they've learned to passages from various genres, ensuring they are prepared for any reading material they might encounter. Class Format: Weekly Sessions: 45-minute live classes where students will engage in direct instruction, group discussions, and interactive activities. These sessions will be recorded for students who might miss a class. Community and Collaboration: Encouraging a supportive learning environment where students share their thoughts, discuss different interpretations of texts, and learn from each other. Why This Class? Preparation for Success: Equip your child with the tools they need to excel in reading comprehension tests, setting a foundation for success in higher grades. Foster a Love for Reading: Beyond test preparation, this class aims to foster a genuine interest in reading, encouraging students to see reading as an enjoyable and rewarding activity.
