2-4 hours per week. I am willing to offer feedback on any or all of the assignments. You can request it as you complete each chapter, or you can ask for feedback once you have completed all eight chapters. I will provide feedback once for each chapter. If wanted, I will also provide overall feedback on the book as a whole once the whole class is over.
Grading
If students would like to turn in their completed book at the end of the class, upon request, I will provide a letter grade for the book as a whole as well as a final set of feedback. This is entirely optional.

Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
Intermediate Level
This class offers students the opportunity to write their own autobiography. Each lesson will cover one chapter of their autobiography for a total of eight chapters. The first five will cover a specific time period in their life. The next two will cover a significant event in their life and then a significant world event. The final chapter covers the student's hopes for the future.
Learning Goals
Students will practice writing stories from their own experiences. This includes using their own words and determining the best way to present a story.
Students will develop skills for reading over their own writing to make corrections and create their best writing.

Syllabus

8 Lessons
over 8 Weeks
Lesson 1:
My Baby Years (Birth to 3)
In this lesson, we will talk about creating a story about your baby years. This is the time from birth to about 3 years old. Because you won't have memories from this time, you will need to depend on others to help you write about this time in your life.

14 mins of video lessons
Lesson 2:
The Preschool Years (3-5)
In this lesson, we will talk about creating a story about your preschool years. This is roughly the time from 3-5 years old. You will probably have friends and family members who will remember this time better than you, but I do encourage you to include some of your own memories in this chapter.

7 mins of video lessons
Lesson 3:
My Elementary Years (5-10)
In this lesson, we will talk about creating a story about your elementary school years. This should cover your story from about 5-10 years old. I encourage you to focus more on what you remember and less on what other people remember from this point forward.

6 mins of video lessons
Lesson 4:
Middle Grades (10-14)
In this lesson, we will talk about creating a story about your middle grade years. In the United States, this would basically be upper elementary school and middle school/junior high. This will be from about 10-14 years old. You may want to adjust this age range, especially if you are only 13-14 years old. This will allow you to still cover part of your story in chapter 5. We will talk about where you can get information to write this part of your story.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
I do mention potentionally sensitive topics when offering suggestions for their World Events chapter. This includes things such as war and the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center in NYC. I do not go into details about these events, but this chapter specifically might be hard emotionally for some students to write. These topics might be sensitive topics for some students. They are welcome to pick a less emotional topic for their chapters.
Pre-Requisites
Students should have a good understanding of how to write in English. This includes an understanding of sentence structure, proper grammar, and how to separate writing into paragraphs.
Supply List
All students will need a way to write their stories. While they can write them using a pen and paper, I would recommend using a good word document program. This will allow students to send me their chapters to read through and review.

Students may also want to use online sources, newspapers, family records, and other documents to write their books.
