US Grade 3 - 5
This class offers students the opportunity to learn about different parts of speech and practice identifying words that fit these different parts of speech. The four main parts of speech we will discuss are nouns, adjectives, verbs, and adverbs. During each lesson, students will be prompted to provide examples of each part of speech, and we will then fill in a Mad Libs worksheet as a class. We will read it over and talk about if the story makes sense. We will also talk about how some of the sentences could be adjusted to make more sense. After class, students will have access to the Mad Libs that we created. Classes are as follows: Class One: My Trip to the Zoo We will begin the class by talking about our favorite zoo animals. We will then talk about parts of speech with a focus on nouns, adjectives, verbs, and adverbs. After that, we will do the Mad Libs worksheet as a class. Class Two: My Trip to the Store We will begin the class by talking about shopping, including what types of items the students like to buy and where they like to go shopping. We will review the parts of speech from the previous lesson. We will also talk about numbers and directions (up, down, left, right, and such). For this Mad Libs, we will be filling in some of the blanks with numbers and directions. Once we have reviewed these, we will then do the Mad Libs worksheet as a class. Class Three: My Trip to the Farm We will begin the class by talking about what the students know about a farm. We will talk about animals that live on a farm and crops that farmers may grow. We will again review the parts of speech from the first lesson. We will also talk about proper nouns and common nouns. For this Mad Libs, we will fill in some of the blanks with proper nouns. Once we have reviewed the parts of speech, including proper and common nouns, we will complete the Mad Libs worksheet as a class.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to identify some of the parts of speech. By doing this in a fun way, students can learn while laughing and enjoying the experience.

I am Ms. Shilo. I enjoy reading, writing, and sports. My favorite sports are soccer and American football. I'm also a bit obsessed with watching the Olympics and will watch as many events as possible when they are going on.
I have a BA in Communication Studies and an MA in English Language and Literature with an emphasis in Creative Writing. My ultimate career goal is to write Young Adult novels. I would like to write about female characters who, like me, really enjoy sports. I feel like this is a novel market that needs more great novels.
I have taught classes both online and in-person for a variety of age groups. For about four years, I taught English to children in China, and I had several regular students who took over 100 classes with me. I have also worked as a one-on-one aide for children who were 3-4 years old as well as a substitute teacher for a variety of age groups.
Because of my passion for reading, I generally read at least 100 books every year. I want to share my love for reading, writing, and grammar with my students.
