Write a Story Paragraph Using Pictures - Beginning Writing Class!

It can be hard for a student to start their writing journey.  In this class, we use pictures to spark ideas to create a story paragraph.  First, we explain what a sentence must contain in order for it to be a sentence.  Then, we discuss how sentences create paragraphs and what elements paragraphs must have.  The learner is then shown 3 pictures.  As a class, we look at each picture and answer some questions.  We put down this information, and I show them how to turn this information into a story paragraph.  If time remains, they will look at 3 more pictures and begin to write down information so they can easily turn it into a story paragraph by following the method that was taught. If time permits, they may finish the paragraph in class.  If not, they will have the method and outline so that they can finish their paragraph at home.  It can then be posted in the classroom, so I may look at it and comment.   I teach in a relaxed manner.  In order for the class to benefit the students, it is helpful if they will interact in answering the questions about the pictures.  A basic reading level appropriate for their age and the ability to write a complete sentence is needed.  This class is good for beginning or struggling writers.  Please bring paper and pencil to class.  Class Rules:  We mute so we do not talk over one another, we raise our hand if we have a comment or a question, we are kind and respectful to everyone, and per the Outschool rules, the camera must be turned on at the beginning of class so I may verify the learner.
