Class Experience

In this course, students will learn facts and folklore about the history and science of salt dough ornaments. Meanwhile, we will construct various winter-theme crafts (using the primary medium of salt dough) together during our lesson. Please refer to the "Learner Supply List" tab to see the links for a couple of different salt dough recipe options, including one that uses the microwave so your oven is free for cooking dinner and the finished result can be done in minutes instead of hours! Since this class is multi-day, we will focus on and complete a different craft each time. Parents/students will be notified in advance of any additional or special materials (e.g. templates) that will be needed for a craft before the start of that class with at least 24 hours notice. Crafts will include:
Week 1: classic "cookie" style tree ornaments
Week 2: impression ornaments and gift tags
Week 3: fingerprint keepsakes
Week 4: GLITTER DAY!

NOTE: The teacher reserves the right to modify/rearrange this schedule and the activities therein as necessary.

Also, students should NOT eat the salt dough, even if the ingredients are considered "safe". Therefore, these materials should only be used under parental supervision and/or at the parents discretion to ensure the safety of the student.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have experience teaching students ranging from grade school ages into adulthood, tutoring 1-on-1, and teaching large groups. I was a language and art/music teacher in Europe for about a year, while traveling around Europe and the UK, where students came to learn English and study various topics through theatre and play activities. In the past, I've also taught kindergarten through 5th grade students in a US public school, and I taught ESL online for nearly 3 years as a certified teacher.

I graduated in 2017 from Georgia Southern University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Arts. I am currently studying front-end web design while working as a private tutor and website creator. In my free time, I enjoy playing music on my ukulele, travel photography, and baking. I have a passion for all forms of art and the creative process that comes with it.

Whatever my current situation may be, I feel motivated to empower young students to realize their academic and creative potential through meaningful play and personal mentorship. I am looking forward to creating fun and productive courses through Outschool and I look forward to seeing you in my classroom soon!
