US Grade 4 - 7
Beginner - Intermediate Level
In this one-time class, students will learn to weave strips of colored paper together to create a patterned weaving and a small basket. We will start by looking at examples of weaving patterns and discussing how it relates to foundational art (color theory, balance, composition, pattern), and by cutting our pieces of colored paper into strips. We will create a “loom” from a single piece of construction paper and weave our flat strips into it to create our pattern. When finished, we will share our work with each other, then repeat the process again. This time, we take it to the next level by going 3D and making a basket or tray.
Learning Goals
Analyze pattens and understand how to create them through weaving. Create two- and three-dimensional art. Connect to the ideas of color theory and foundational art.
