US Grade 6 - 9
This course will help students discover the role cellular reproduction plays in genetic variation/diversity. This course is filled with engaging, hands-on learning and will help prepare students for Biology in high school. All lessons are taught through recorded lessons. This course will include presentations, guided notes, videos, reading, writing, graphic organizers, foldables, labs, and demonstrations. I'm a firm believer in creating engaging learning experiences. Meeting 1: Cellular Reproduction (Asexual & Sexual Reproduction) Meeting 2: Cell Reproduction: Mitosis Meeting 3: Cell Reproduction: Meiosis (Students will Create a Cellular Reproduction Foldable) Meeting 4: Introduction to Genetics (Mendel's Pea Plants) & Structure of DNA . (Build DNA Lab) Meeting 5: Genotype, Phenotype & Punnett Square Meeting 6: Pedigree Charts & Traits Lab Meeting 7: Genetic Disorders & Mutations A flex course allows learners to cover material during a time that is convenient for them each week. Students are encouraged to check in with the teacher weekly via the Outschool classroom, which will allow for more engagement between the teacher and learner. After weekly lessons, students can collaborate with their peers by replying to the announcements and lesson postings in the Outschool classroom. Participation will include an introduction post, discussion posts, assignments, and projects in the Classroom. This allows students to process what they are learning by collaborating with peers and the teacher. Participation in assignments allows students to practice and reinforce learning. This also provides opportunities for the teacher to gauge student learning and provide interventions if necessary. Private messages or classroom comments are usually responded to within 24 hours with the exception of weekends. ***My courses are not graded unless requested. If grades are needed, please let me know upon enrollment. Thank you.****
Syllabus
7 Lessons
over 7 WeeksLesson 1:
Asexual vs Sexual Reproduction
This lesson compares asexual and sexual cell reproduction. Asexual makes clones, seen in bacteria or mitosis. Sexual, like in animals and plants, mixes genes. We'll discuss pros and cons: asexual is fast but lacks variety, while sexual is diverse
Lesson 2:
Mitosis
Step into the microscopic world of cell division lesson on mitosis! Discover how a single cell splits into two identical ones, diving deep into the mesmerizing phases like prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase. Through cool visuals and hands-on activities, you'll unravel the secrets of how cells grow, repair, and even replicate in organisms. Get ready for an adventure in the tiny realm of mitosis!
Lesson 3:
Meiosis
Embark on an exciting journey into the world of genetics with our lesson on meiosis! Explore how cells divide twice to create unique offspring. Dive into the phases of meiosis, discover genetic diversity, and unlock the mysteries of inheritance. Get ready for a thrilling exploration of life's blueprint!
Lesson 4:
Intro to Genetics & Structure of DNA
Get ready to unlock the secrets of life itself in our lesson on genetics and DNA structure! Dive into the fascinating world of genes, chromosomes, and DNA molecules. Explore the double helix structure, learn how traits are inherited, and uncover the blueprint of all living organisms. Get ready for a mind-blowing journey into the code of life!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Florida Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
I've been teaching middle school comprehensive science for four years and I taught 5th-grade science prior to moving to middle school. I currently help design activities that support the 7th & 8th-grade curriculum for all of the science teachers. I will be incorporating reading and writing in this science course as well. I have a master's degree in reading and writing, and I am a firm believer in reading and writing in the content area.
