The Ancient Egyptians used beautiful "word-images" called hieroglyphs as their written language. Egyptian Kings and Queens, aka Pharaohs, were given at least TWO names when they came to power. We will learn about the meanings of each name, how they were typically written, and look at the two names of one of the most famous Pharaohs - King Tutankhamun. THEN, we will use these naming traditions to illustrate our own names using Egyptian hieroglyphs. This course will include images, Q&A opportunities, and lots of time to be creative! A very basic knowledge of Ancient Egypt is helpful, but by no means required.
Learning Goals
• Students will learn that Ancient Egyptian Kings and Queens were given two royal names composed of hieroglyphs.
* Students will learn the two names of the famous Pharaoh King Tutankamun.
• Students will use the basic hieroglyphic alphabet to find the letters for their own names, and draw, write or illustrate their names using one of the two royal naming conventions.
• Students will learn the terms/words: HIEROGLYPH, CARTOUCHE, PHARAOH, KMT/KEMET, TUTANKHAMUN
