This engaging writing course uses the Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW) Ancient History-Based Writing Lessons to teach students how to write with structure and style while exploring fascinating events, people, and cultures of the ancient world. Students will travel through ancient history—from Mesopotamia and Egypt to Greece, Rome, and beyond—while learning how to organize their thoughts, take effective notes, and craft well-written paragraphs and essays. Each lesson introduces a specific writing model (such as narrative, descriptive, or persuasive) along with stylistic techniques like strong verbs, quality adjectives, sentence openers, and decorations. The course uses IEW’s proven, incremental approach, making writing accessible and achievable for a wide range of learners. Students will develop critical thinking, reading comprehension, and public speaking skills as they share and refine their written work. This class is ideal for students who are new to writing or those looking to strengthen their skills in a structured yet creative environment. By the end of the course, students will not only have improved their writing abilities but will also gain a deeper appreciation for the ancient world.
