Class Experience
Being able to summarize nonfiction is a crucial skill when reading to learn. In this course, readers will be taught to use text features such as headings and captions to pick out important facts as they read. We will read a nonfiction passage together, focusing on a section at a time. As we read, we will pause and discuss important points, writing our summary as we go. Once our summaries are complete, we will share and compare our summaries with one written by the author. Should you be...
Readers will learn to use nonfiction text features to decipher the most vital information in a nonfiction text. They will then use this information to write a paragraph summary of the text.
